Over 1,000 Young Scientists and Researchers from 30 Countries Join Hybrid Program

Islamabad  :  A landmark international certificate course on Applied Biomedical Artificial Intelligence was inaugurated at the COMSTECH Secretariat, jointly organized by OIC-COMSTECH and Ningbo University, China. The hybrid-format course brought together over 1,000 young scientists, researchers, and professionals from 30 countries, who joined both physically and virtually and will be benefited from this course .

The inauguration ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH. Prof. Choudhary highlighted the significance of the 19-day course as a milestone in international scientific collaboration. He emphasized that the program aims to equip participants—especially from low- and middle-income OIC member countries with practical AI skills relevant to biomedical research. Participants are required to attend at least 80% of the sessions to qualify for certification.

The event featured keynote speeches from top Chinese scientists, including Prof. Dr. Liu Xinmin, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Drug Discovery, Ningbo University, who emphasized the importance of global partnerships in accelerating biomedical progress.

Academician Prof. Dr. Zhao Yufen, Director at the Institute of Drug Discovery Technology, participated virtually as the guest of honour and stressed the importance of cultivating AI-driven talent for global health innovation.

Prof. Dr. Yuzong Chen, Deputy Director of the State Key Lab of Chemical Oncogenomics, provided an overview of the course and delivered the first technical lecture, focusing on advanced AI applications in chemical genomics and drug development.

The session concluded with a live Q&A, marking the successful launch of this high-impact academic initiative, which is set to deepen long-term scientific cooperation between the OIC and China.
