Sherry Condemns Balochistan Honour Killing as “Barbaric and Shameful

Islamabad:—Vice President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman, delivered a strong condemnation in the Senate of the recent brutal murders of a man and woman in Balochistan, calling the incident “not an honour killing, but an act of sheer dishonour.”

Speaking during the Senate session, Senator Rehman said:
“They are calling this an old matter, but there is nothing ‘old’ about the injustice that continues to unfold in Balochistan. In remote areas, jirgas are still making arbitrary decisions about women’s lives, nothing justifies such a barbaric and savage killing.”

Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, Senator Rehman remarked, “The way both individuals were mercilessly executed has left us all with our heads bowed in shame. The woman was shot mercilessly. Do these people believe they are above the law — or worse, gods unto themselves?”

She further stated, “This shameful act has tarnished Pakistan’s image globally. It is a national disgrace.”

Senator Rehman informed the House that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had immediately taken notice of the incident and asked the Chief Minister of Balochistan to ensure that no one involved is spared. She noted that 13 suspects have already been arrested.

Calling for sustained scrutiny of the case, she urged senators from Balochistan to monitor developments closely:
“In a system where justice is fragile and suspects are welcomed with drums instead of handcuffs, we must not allow this to be swept under the rug. The world is watching.”

She also underscored that the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sarfaraz Bugti, has termed the case “a test for our system,” and reiterated that it must set a precedent for zero tolerance.

Senator Rehman concluded her remarks with a call for parliamentary action:
“I strongly urge this House to bring a resolution condemning this barbaric incident and demanding swift and exemplary justice.”
