Pak, EU Advance Strategic Ties in 10th Round of Political Dialogue

Brussels : Pakistan and the European Union held the 10th round of Political Dialogue in Brussels to discuss bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, as well as regional and international trends.

Pakistan’s delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, while Ambassador Olof Skoog, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service, led the EU side.

The Political Dialogue, held under the umbrella of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan (SEP) signed in 2019, discussed the existing cooperative efforts and determined new areas of engagement.
Both sides expressed their commitment to improving communication in the field of security matters, including counter-terrorism and anti-narcotics. They also agreed to denounce terrorism in all its forms and value the necessity of cooperative measures in combating threats that transcend borders.

Regional and global issues were also discussed during the consultations. The two delegations exchanged views on issues in the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe, including particular discussions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, Ukraine, and Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.

There was mutual appreciation of the importance of diplomatic settlement and respect for international law and the United Nations Charter. Both sides reaffirmed their adherence to peace based on a just and enduring peace in Palestine with the two-state solution and called for efforts to resume a ceasefire.

The two sides agreed to continue close cooperation under the GSP+ mechanism, which has played a crucial role in determining the trade relations between the European Union and Pakistan.

They also recognized progress in migration management and expressed their interest in hosting the third Comprehensive Migration and Mobility Dialogue later in 2025.

It was agreed that the seventh Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue will be held in 2025, and the subsequent round will be held in Islamabad in 2026.
