Midterm Memes Flood Internet as Iran Embassy Mocks Trump

Islamabad (GNP): President Donald Trump was not on the ballot in the 2026 midterm elections, but he became the main target of online humor after Democrats won control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Social media platforms filled with memes, edited photographs and AI-generated videos mocking him and his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

One of the most widely shared posts came from the Embassy of Iran in India. Its official X account posted an image of a figure portrayed as Trump being lifted by several men and thrown into a bin marked “Hazardous Waste.” The embassy captioned it, “The U.S. midterm elections.”

The post drew wide attention because of who shared it. The United States and Iran are in open conflict, and the war was one of the main concerns voters raised before the vote. That gave the online mockery a diplomatic twist.

The embassy’s post was only one part of a larger reaction.

The jokes spread within hours of the results, which showed the scale of the Republican setback. Many users treated the outcome as more than a routine political shift and described it as a “blue tsunami” rather than a blue wave.

Phrases such as “Blue Wave,” “Blue Tsunami” and “Blunami” gained traction on X and Instagram. Alongside them came posts that borrowed from popular television and film scenes, turning familiar characters into commentary on the vote.

Some of the satire was lighthearted. One video showed a Trump lookalike selling kulfi, a frozen dessert popular in South Asia, calling out to passers-by in the style of a street vendor.

Other posts were harsher. One meme imagined Trump in jail, upset and surrounded by visitors, while former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden laughed in the background.

Another joke suggested that America was trying to deport Trump’s majority, a pointed reference to his hardline immigration policies.

The humor tapped into frustrations that had already shaped the campaign. Voters had raised concerns about the war with Iran, the rising cost of living, tariffs and allegations of corruption. One meme song summed up the mood by declaring that Trump, the Republicans and MAGA had lost while America had won.

Behind the humor sits a real shift in power. With both chambers in Democratic hands, the party is expected to gain greater ability to scrutinize the administration, launch investigations, block nominations and challenge parts of Trump’s legislative agenda. He remains in office with his executive powers, but his party’s position in Congress is weaker.

Trump has responded to the result in two ways. He said he was willing to accept the outcome and work with Democrats, while also arguing that Republicans would have won by a landslide had he been on the ballot himself.

For many social media users, the political consequences were quickly reduced to a familiar internet ritual of turning a major defeat into memes. Their verdict was that Trump had finally been “trumped” by the Democrats.
