Islamabad (GNP): Hungary’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Zoltán Varga, spoke at the opening of the National Day celebration held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, which he described as a symbol of the Hungarian people’s fight for freedom and independence.
The event was hosted by the Hungarian Embassy and sponsored by MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company B.V.
Diplomats, joint venture partners, government representatives and other dignitaries attended, both to remember the 1956 revolution and to strengthen Hungary-Pakistan friendship. The evening ended with a showcase of Hungarian art and culture by folk dancers who travelled from Hungary for the occasion.

Varga thanked Pakistani diplomats for backing Hungary’s freedom fighters at the United Nations, singling out the role of Sir Muhammad Abdul Qayyum Khan, Pakistan’s former President and Prime Minister of AJK, in advocating for political prisoners.
He reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to deeper ties with Pakistan through trade, economic cooperation, educational exchanges, cultural links and scientific collaboration.
He also noted rising interest among Pakistani students in studying in Hungary through scholarship programmes.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, the chief guest, congratulated the Hungarian government and people and wished the country continued peace, progress and prosperity. He stressed the need to strengthen bilateral relations through cooperation in trade, investment, energy, education, technology, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges.

He cited the long-standing presence of Hungary’s MOL Group in Pakistan’s energy sector as a good example of cooperation, and invited Hungarian investors and businesses to explore opportunities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in tourism, agriculture, hydropower and information technology. He affirmed his commitment to promoting international partnerships, sustainable development and economic opportunities that benefit both countries.
Ali Murtaza Abbas, MOL Group Regional Vice President, said the company sees itself as a bridge between the two countries. Having made Pakistan its operational home, he said, MOL brings Hungarian expertise and standards to Pakistan and shows Hungary what Pakistan offers investors. He called Hungarian Day a welcome chance to strengthen that bridge together with the Embassy.
