Islamabad (GNP): The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan hosted friendly football matches in the capital on October 17, bringing together teams from the Russian, Kazakh and Uzbek diplomatic missions.
The event was opened by Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev, Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev and Nurlan Rafkhat, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Kazakhstan. Their joint presence set the tone for a day built around goodwill between the three missions.
Once the matches began, the players turned the occasion into a spirited but fair contest. They showed skill, determination and team spirit throughout.
The teams were not alone on the sidelines. Colleagues and family members of the embassy staff turned out in large numbers to cheer them on.

When the final whistle blew, the day carried on off the pitch. Participants stayed to socialise over traditional Russian, Kazakh and Uzbek dishes, which they had prepared themselves.

That relaxed atmosphere led to a lasting decision. The heads of the three diplomatic missions agreed to make such sporting events a regular tradition among the diplomatic corps of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries in Pakistan.
