PSL 12 Locks in March 18 Start With Eight Teams Back

Lahore (GNP): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the 12th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) will run from 18 March to 2 May 2027. That gives the eight-team tournament a window of roughly six weeks.

The dates were finalised after consultations with owners and representatives of all eight franchises. Those talks took place at a governing council meeting in London on 1 September.

The PCB said the full schedule, venues and ticketing arrangements will be announced later. For now, attention turns to the teams themselves.

The next stage of preparation is squad-building. Direct signings, player retentions, a trade window and the player auction will all form part of the process.

Some of the groundwork is already in place. A total of 103 players were sold at the inaugural auction in February, and those retained or acquired there received two-year contracts covering PSL 11 and PSL 12. Franchises can keep up to seven players for the 2027 season.

PSL chief executive Salman Naseer said the announcement marks the start of preparations for the 2027 tournament. He expects the signings, retentions, trades and auction to build interest in the coming months.

That interest follows a strong previous season. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said PSL 11 showed the league’s potential through memorable matches, strong attendances and record broadcast figures.

Peshawar Zalmi will begin PSL 12 as defending champions. They beat debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the PSL 11 final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The eight participating franchises are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindiz.

Naqvi said, “HBL PSL 12 will raise the bar further.”
