Pakistan sees global cooperation as vital to agricultural growth, Rana Tanveer

Rana Tanveer Hussain Highlights Pakistan’s Reform-Driven Agricultural Strategy at Global FAO Forum

Rome, Italy : Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, represented Pakistan at the 44th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference.
Addressing a high-level gathering of international delegates, the Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to developing sustainable, climate-resilient, and inclusive agri-food systems that not only ensure national food security but also contribute to global efforts in eradicating hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.

Federal Minister stated that Pakistan is undergoing wide-ranging national reforms aimed at modernizing its agricultural sector. These reforms focus on enhancing food safety standards, promoting innovation, encouraging crop diversification, and empowering smallholder farmers. The Minister highlighted that these measures are designed to create a more equitable and robust food system that improves nutrition, supports livelihoods, and ensures long-term food security for all.

While reflecting on the broader global context, the Minister emphasized that food security and environmental sustainability are universal challenges that require collective responses. He noted that Pakistan values international cooperation as a key pillar in its agricultural development strategy. By sharing knowledge, aligning with global best practices, and learning from other nations, Pakistan aims to contribute meaningfully to global food governance and resilience-building efforts.

Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain also acknowledged Pakistan’s active participation in the election of the new Chairperson and Vice Chairs of the FAO Council during the session. He congratulated the newly elected leadership and expressed confidence that the new Chairperson will play a vital role in facilitating consensus among member countries, strengthening coordination with governing bodies, and ensuring that the Council remains responsive to the evolving needs of its members. He assured that Pakistan would continue to support FAO’s governance processes and contribute constructively to its agenda.

Underscoring the importance of continued collaboration with FAO and other international development partners, the Minister reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to improving food systems through policy innovation, institutional capacity building, and adaptive farming approaches. He also recognized the valuable support of FAO, WFP, and IFAD in implementing programs aimed at reducing food insecurity, enhancing nutrition, and addressing the vulnerabilities caused by climate change and environmental stress.

In conclusion, the Federal Minister called upon the global community to deepen cooperation and solidarity in the face of escalating food system challenges. He emphasized that by working together, countries can build agri-food systems that are not only efficient and productive but also fair, sustainable, and resilient for future generations.
