DPM, UN Chief Review Regional and Global Issues

ISLAMABAD (GNP): Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the capital today.

The two sides exchanged views on peace and security matters at the regional and global level, among them Palestine, Jammu & Kashmir, Afghanistan, counter-terrorism and the outlook for multilateralism.

Dar updated Guterres on Pakistan’s stance on Jammu & Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. He restated Islamabad’s appeal for a fair and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed to Pakistan’s diplomatic work in support of dialogue and the easing of tensions, citing its role in hosting the Islamabad Talks between the US and Iran. He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to talks and diplomacy as the most effective route to settling disputes.

Guterres, for his part, commended Pakistan’s long-standing contribution to the United Nations and its efforts in mediation, dialogue and de-escalation.
