Islamabad (GNP): Marking National Newspaper Readership Day, the Prime Minister extended appreciation and tribute to newspapers and journalism professionals across the country, with particular recognition for members of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and newspaper readers nationwide.
In his message, the Prime Minister noted that newspapers capture the political, economic, and social dimensions of national life, playing a vital role in cultivating an informed and engaged society. He observed that throughout history, newspapers worldwide have played a commendable role in raising awareness, shaping public discourse, and giving people access to credible information and diverse viewpoints.
He recalled that during the independence movement, newspapers served as a powerful voice for the Muslims of the subcontinent, contributing significantly to political awareness, unity, and a shared sense of purpose. Since Pakistan’s creation, he said, the press has continued to strengthen democracy, promote transparency, and keep citizens informed on matters of both national and international significance.
Acknowledging today’s rapidly changing information landscape, the Prime Minister noted that while digital and social media have transformed how people access news, newspapers retain their enduring relevance and importance. He stressed that at a time when misinformation and misleading content can spread rapidly, the value of credible journalism, professional standards, and responsible reporting has never been more critical.
He emphasized that strong, credible editorial processes remain essential to ensuring readers have access to well-researched news, analysis, and informed perspectives grounded in verification and journalistic integrity.
The Prime Minister encouraged citizens, particularly young people, to develop the habit of reading newspapers, noting that beyond simply keeping readers informed of current events, newspapers offer valuable context, broaden knowledge, deepen understanding of contemporary issues, and foster civic awareness.

He concluded by commending editors, journalists, photographers, press workers, and everyone associated with the newspaper industry for their contributions to national life and their continued dedication to the principles of responsible journalism.
