Islamabad (GNP): British High Commissioner Jane Marriott met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar to discuss Pakistan-UK relations, building on the understandings reached during the DPM/FM’s visit to the UK in August, along with ways to deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining sustained high-level engagement between the two countries and also touched on regional and international developments of mutual concern.
During his official visit to the United Kingdom in August 2026, Senator Dar held delegation-level talks in London with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. The two sides reviewed the full range of Pakistan-UK bilateral relations and agreed to establish a formal mechanism for structured talks between their respective foreign ministries, aimed at covering all areas of cooperation and regularly assessing progress on key issues. Both ministers stressed the value of continued high-level dialogue and closer coordination on matters of shared interest.
The two also exchanged views on major regional and global developments, including the evolving situation in the Middle East. Dar briefed Miliband on Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts in the region and the progress achieved through these initiatives, with Miliband commending Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and stability in the Middle East.
Discussions also touched on the Indus Waters Treaty and the broader regional security situation. Dar highlighted India’s continued violations of its international obligations and emphasized the importance of upholding international law and treaty commitments. He also voiced serious concern over terrorist threats originating from Afghan territory and the risk such groups pose to Pakistan’s peace and security.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation both regionally and globally, and acknowledged the vital role the Pakistani diaspora plays in strengthening the historic ties and people-to-people connections between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
