Higher Education and Technology Keys to Pakistan’s Bright Future, Gilani

Swabi : Chairman Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, stated that access to higher education and technology is the key to securing a bright future for Pakistan. He expressed these views while addressing the 29th Convocation of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI).

He noted that Pakistan is currently undergoing the Fifth Industrial Revolution, where concepts such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things are no longer theoretical ideas, but transformative forces actively reshaping industries and economies.

He further stated that it is due to these emerging trends that Pakistan’s digital economy has seen remarkable progress, with IT exports expected to reach USD 5 billion this year. He emphasized that higher education forms the bedrock of any nation’s development, and as a nation, we must acknowledge that our future now depends less on traditional resources and more on the strength of our intellectual and human capital.

In his address, he urged the youth to acquire modern skills that would enable them to become a source of innovation globally, take on leadership roles, and contribute meaningfully toward building a sustainable and secure future. He highlighted that the education system is rapidly evolving, with new modes of learning emerging, and it is essential for young people to adapt and leverage emerging technologies.

Furthermore, he paid tribute to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, noting that she always prioritized investment in education. He said her belief was firm that investing in education is in fact investing in the future of the nation. He expressed his best wishes for the graduating students and expressed hope that they would serve the nation with dedication and integrity.

During the convocation, the Chairman Senate conferred degrees upon 548 graduating students, which included 470 Bachelor’s, 65 Master’s, and 13 PhD scholars. Students demonstrating outstanding academic performance were also awarded gold medals. The ceremony was attended by students, their parents, heads of various universities, faculty members, administrative staff of GIKI, and other distinguished guests.

President SOPREST Engr. Salim Saifullah Khan thanked the Chairman Senate for gracing the occasion as chief guest. He highlighted the mission and vision of GIK. He observed that the institute according the vision of its founder is making generation for future challenges. He said that we have to work towards making Pakistan self-reliant. He also praised to hard work of faculty and greeted the parent.
