Pakistan stays firm in combating drug abuse and trafficking, President

Message from Asif Ali Zardari
President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
On the Occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – 26th June

Islamabad:  Today, we observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and reaffirm our commitment to eliminating drug abuse from society. This year’s theme, “Breaking the Chain: Prevention and Recovery for All,” underscores the urgent need to dismantle drug networks and adopt a holistic approach to eradicate narcotics.

Drug abuse and illicit trafficking remain global challenges that demand unified and sustained international cooperation. Pakistan continues to make determined efforts to combat this menace and supports all international and multilateral initiatives in this regard.

Narcotics and illicit drugs pose
serious threats to public health and the future of our youth. The Government of Pakistan remains resolute in its fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The Anti-Narcotics Force, under the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, has played a significant role in this endeavor.

We need to raise awareness and educate our citizens—especially the younger generation—about the dangers of drug abuse to build a safer and healthier society. Through a comprehensive strategy focused on prevention, education, treatment, and strong enforcement, we are striving to build a drug-free Pakistan.

We believe prevention begins at home, in schools, and within communities. Equally important is ensuring access to rehabilitation and recovery services for those affected. Collaboration among government institutions, civil society, the private sector, and international partners is highly essential to eradicate drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
On this day, I also pay tribute to the brave sons of the soil who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifice is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to combat this scourge.
I call upon all citizens to unite in eliminating drugs and supporting national efforts to build a healthier and safer Pakistan. We will continue to strengthen our institutions and rehabilitation services, and invest in preventive education and outreach. Together, we can safeguard future generations and ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live a life free from the influence of narcotics.
