Islamabad (GNP): Syria’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, concluded a two-day official visit to Pakistan on August 20, 2026, marking the first trip by a Syrian foreign minister to the country since the formation of Syria’s new government.
He travelled to Islamabad on the invitation of Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
During his stay, Al-Shaibani held bilateral consultations with Dar, where both sides reaffirmed what they described as longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Syria.
The two ministers agreed to convene established institutional mechanisms at an early date, underscoring the value both governments place on regular diplomatic engagement.
They also committed to expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and deepening people-to-people contacts between the two nations.
The visit wasn’t limited to foreign ministry talks. Al-Shaibani called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and separately met Pakistan’s Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, the Minister for Commerce, and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.
