Unitree Unveils Superman Robot Ahead of Shanghai Listing

Shanghai (GNP): Chinese robotics company Unitree has unveiled a new high-speed humanoid robot named “Superman,” days before it becomes the first general-purpose robotics firm to list on mainland China’s stock market.

The company, based in the eastern tech hub of Hangzhou, said the robot was developed in just over three months and has achieved a standing jump of two metres, along with a top speed of 12.66 metres per second.

Unitree, described as the world’s biggest humanoid-robot maker by sales, is set to begin trading in Shanghai on Wednesday after raising 6.1 billion yuan, or approximately $905 million, through an initial public offering last week.

The listing was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail investors, a record for Shanghai’s tech-focused STAR Market, underscoring the scale of investor interest surrounding the company ahead of its debut.

The Superman unveiling and the company’s Shanghai listing coincide with the opening of the World Robot Conference in Beijing, further amplifying attention on a company whose humanoid robots have already drawn global notice for their ability to run, dance, and perform martial arts.

Unitree said in a social media post last week that it had cumulatively produced and delivered roughly 18,000 bipedal humanoid robots across multiple models as of July, though the company noted that Superman itself remains a work in progress and could see further improvements in the coming months.

Unitree founder Wang Xingxing rose to national prominence after being given a front-row seat at a summit hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping for leading technology entrepreneurs last year.

The startup counts some of China’s most influential technology firms among its backers, including Tencent, Alibaba, and DeepSeek, lending further weight to its position within the country’s fast-growing robotics sector.

Ahead of the Shanghai listing, derivative trading in offshore markets has pointed to a strong debut for the company’s shares, which analysts say may also benefit from a broader recovery in Chinese technology stocks following last month’s selloff.
