Islamabad (GNP): Pakistani cricket stars marked the country’s 79th Independence Day with personal messages of pride and unity, taking to social media to express what August 14 means to them as both athletes and citizens.
From senior figures who once led the national team to current stars still shaping its future, the tributes reflected a shared sense of gratitude toward the country and its people, with many players linking the day’s significance to the same green flag they represent on the international stage.
Former captain Shahid Afridi opened his tribute by expressing deep personal devotion to the country, describing Pakistan as central to his identity and drawing strength from standing beneath the national flag. He closed his message with a call for citizens to serve and protect the nation, ending with the popular patriotic slogan “Pakistan Zindabad.”

Continuing the wave of tributes, former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar shared a message expressing pride in the country, its people, and the collective spirit that unites Pakistanis, along with well wishes for the nation’s continued progress and prosperity.

Former captain Wasim Akram also marked the occasion online, posting a photo alongside his wife with an accompanying Independence Day greeting for the country.

Current national team captain Babar Azam shared a message in Urdu reflecting on the significance of the national flag, describing the day as one dedicated to the emblem worn on the team jersey and framing it as a symbol of complete national identity, ending with the same widely used patriotic phrase.
