Uzbek Ambassador Calls on SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan to Discuss Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Islamabad – Alisher Tukhtaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, to discuss avenues for strengthening economic and industrial ties between the two brotherly countries.

The Uzbek Ambassador conveyed his gratitude to the Pakistani leadership for its continued support and cooperation. He emphasized the need to deepen engagement in key sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, and food processing.

SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Uzbekistan, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to boost investment and industrial cooperation in the country. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s goal of increasing bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to USD 2 billion, and noted that efforts in this regard were underway at all levels.

During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of collaboration in public procurement and joint ventures in Special Economic Zones (SEZs). They also discussed prospects for industrial cooperation in e-commerce, with the Uzbek envoy inviting Pakistani digital companies to explore opportunities in Uzbekistan.

Further proposals included joint production of construction materials and partnership in the extraction and processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

The Ambassador informed that the Uzbekistan–Pakistan Business Forum is scheduled to be held on June 25 in Karachi, aiming to enhance B2B engagement between companies of both nations.

He also expressed a strong interest in hosting a “Made in Pakistan” Exhibition in Uzbekistan to showcase Pakistani products and strengthen trade connectivity.

Both sides underscored the importance of phytosanitary cooperation in boosting food and agricultural exports.

It was noted with appreciation that direct flights between Tashkent and Islamabad have already commenced from June 14.

The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to transform longstanding diplomatic ties into robust economic and industrial partnerships.
