Symposium Held on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building

Islamabad (GNP): The China Program at the Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad, together with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, hosted a joint symposium titled “Thematic Briefing on Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building,” exploring its theoretical basis and relevance for Pakistan and other developing nations.

The session featured Professor Zheng Huan of the Central Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Liu Daxiu, head of the visiting delegation and inspector at the Party Building Research Institute, and IRS President Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, alongside remarks from Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong. Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani attended as chief guest.

The event brought together senators and parliamentarians from across Pakistan’s political spectrum, senior diplomats, Chinese Embassy officials, and members of the academic and media community, reflecting the broader scope of political exchange between the two countries.

According to a recent Chinese think-tank report, Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building centers on strengthening the Communist Party of China through rigorous internal governance, improved conduct, and national development, forming part of the broader framework known as Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

The report identifies party leadership, ideological development, organizational discipline, and anti-corruption efforts as core areas of focus.

The briefing was followed by an open discussion exploring how the framework’s insights might apply more broadly to governance, extending the conversation beyond China’s domestic political system to consider how political parties in different national contexts might draw on similar principles around institutional accountability, discipline, and public trust.

The symposium reflected the expanding scope of Pakistan-China engagement beyond traditional economic and infrastructure cooperation. While projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor remain central to bilateral relations, political and institutional dialogue offers an additional channel for deepening mutual understanding between the two countries.

For China, the framework represents an approach to strengthening the CPC and supporting national development, while for international observers, its relevance extends to broader discussions about how political organizations maintain institutional discipline and effective governance.

The Islamabad symposium offered a platform to examine these themes through the lens of Pakistan-China relations and the wider global political context.
