Essence of Independence Day Lies in Delivering Citizen-Centric

Islamabad (GNP):  To celebrate upcoming Independence Day, at Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reaffirmed government’s commitment to building a modern, digitally empowered, citizen-centric and cyber-secure Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Minister also launched the e-Stamp service at the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre, describing it as a secure and digitally verifiable solution that would reduce forgery, paperwork and unnecessary visits to government offices.

The Minister highlighted that the Centre reflected what independence should actually means —citizens empowered to access government services easily, efficiently and under one roof, without unnecessary visits, paperwork or delays. The Centre brings 60 plus government services from 12 federal departments under single roof.

She said the government’s digital transformation agenda was about improving the citizen experience with the state and making public services more accessible, responsive and transparent.

Highlighting the progress of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), she said 29 of 30 digital transformation initiatives assigned since February 2024 had been completed.

She noted that e-Office is now operational across all 39 Federal Divisions, with over 44,000 active users across 781 organisational units. Other key achievements include 4.2 million One Patient-One ID registrations at PIMS, Beep’s adoption across 68 ministries, and Pakistan Overseas Citizen Engagement Platform serving Overseas Pakistanis through 126 missions abroad.

Linking digital transformation with the spirit of Independence Day,  Minister IT stated digital sovereignty was equally important as physical sovereignty.

“A digitally sovereign Pakistan is a Pakistan that can protect its citizens, its data, its infrastructure and its national interests. We are moving in the right direction,” she said.

Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja reiterated that Pakistan’s young population was its greatest asset and reaffirmed the government’s focus on IT, freelancing, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence and global digital opportunities and encouraged youth to upskill their digital skills.
