United States(GNP): United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting the meaningful participation of women in Syria’s political transition and long term recovery following a meeting with representatives of women’s organizations in the country.
During the meeting, Guterres emphasized that women are important to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Syria.
He noted that after years of conflict and humanitarian challenges, the voices and leadership of Syrian women must remain at the center of the country’s future.
Women play a vital role in shaping Syria’s future and long term recovery,” the Secretary General said, highlighting the importance of ensuring that women have opportunities to participate safely and effectively in political processes and national decision making.
The United Nations has consistently advocated for inclusive peacebuilding, that recognizing the sustainable peace is more likely to be achieved when women are actively involved in negotiations, governance, and post conflict reconstruction.
Their participation brings different perspectives and strengthens efforts to rebuild communities affected by years of violence.The meeting also provided an opportunity for Syrian women’s organizations to share their experiences, challenges, and recommendations for advancing peace, justice, and equality.

Guterres highlighted that the United Nations will continue working with local communities, civil society organizations, and international partners to ensure women can participate safely and meaningfully in Syria’s political transition.
