New York (GNP): The United Nations has called for stronger global actions to support and empower women and girls of African descent, highlighting the discrimination and barriers that many continue to face while recognizing their resilience, leadership, and contributions to society.
On the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, observed annually on 25 July, the UN emphasized that many women and girls still experience multiple forms of discrimination because of both their gender and racial identity.
These challenges often limit access to quality education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and equal participation in public life.
With all these obstacles, women and girls of African descent continue to make meaningful contributions in their communities and across the world.
They are leading businesses, advancing scientific research, promoting social justice, strengthening local communities, and inspiring future generations through their achievements and determination.
The United Nations stressed that more needs to be done to ensure they have equal opportunities to succeed. It called on governments, institutions, civil society, and the private sector to work together to eliminate discrimination, protect human rights, and create inclusive environments where every woman and girl can reach her full potential.
The observance also serves as a reminder that promoting equality is not only about addressing injustice but also about recognizing talent, leadership, and potential.

Investing in education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and leadership programs can help remove barriers that have affected generations of women and girls of African descent.
The UN reaffirmed that building inclusive societies requires the active participation of everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender.
By ensuring equal rights and opportunities, countries can strengthen social cohesion, encourage innovation, and support sustainable development.
As the world marks the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, the United Nations encourages people everywhere to celebrate their achievements, listen to their voices, and continue working toward a future where every woman and girl can live with dignity, equality, and opportunity.
