Islamabad (GNP): The Embassy of Cuba in Pakistan, together with the Pakistan-Cuba Social Forum, opened a photographic exhibition titled “Fidel Por Siempre” (Fidel Forever) to mark the centenary of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, alongside a related book display exploring his life and legacy.
The launch event, held at the Cuban Embassy, brought together political figures, members of the diplomatic community, intellectuals, and supporters of Cuba-Pakistan relations.
Guests included Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Turkmenistan’s Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov, along with Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who spoke about Castro’s historical significance and lasting influence.
Reflections on Fidel’s Legacy
In his remarks, Senator Sayed noted that Castro’s humanitarian outlook continues to shape Cuba’s approach to diplomacy and international solidarity, pointing to the Cuban medical teams that assisted Pakistan following the devastating 2005 earthquake, as well as Pakistani doctors trained at Cuban institutions, as examples of the genuine human connection underpinning the bilateral relationship.
Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero noted that the centenary celebration coincides with Cuba’s National Rebellion Day on July 26, commemorating the day Castro and a group of young revolutionaries led an assault on military barracks in eastern Cuba — an event that set in motion major changes for the Cuban nation.
He described the exhibition as more than a historical retrospective, framing it instead as a celebration of an enduring legacy rooted in courage, social justice, and international solidarity.
Ramzan Mughal, president of the Pakistan-Cuba Social Forum and the exhibition’s chief organizer, said the photo display serves to preserve shared history between the two nations while reinforcing the long-standing friendship between Cuba and Pakistan.
