The championship match, pitting Spain against Argentina following their semifinal victories, will be held at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
A Historic First for Football
The halftime show, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in partnership with FIFA and Global Citizen, will feature Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira and BTS as co-headliners, alongside Nigerian artist Burna Boy and conductor Gustavo Dudamel leading an orchestra. Special appearances by Sesame Street characters and The Muppets will add a family-oriented dimension to the performance.
The show is expected to run for approximately eleven minutes, though the full halftime interval may extend beyond the traditional break to accommodate stage setup and removal.
The initiative marks a deliberate departure from football tradition, borrowing a format long associated with American football’s Super Bowl and applying it to the world’s largest sporting event for the first time. The move signals FIFA’s broader ambition to position the World Cup Final not only as a sporting climax but as a global entertainment moment capable of drawing audiences well beyond traditional football fandom.
Tied to a Global Cause
The performance is linked to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise 100 million US dollars to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children around the world. Framing the halftime show around this fundraising goal gives the spectacle a stated humanitarian purpose alongside its entertainment value, aligning the tournament’s most-watched moment with a cause extending beyond the match itself.
Closing Ceremony Ahead of Kickoff
Ahead of the final whistle, the tournament’s closing ceremony will open the day’s festivities, produced in creative partnership with Balich Wonder Studio. Set to begin at 1:30 PM local time, ninety minutes before kickoff, the ceremony will be headlined by Post Malone, with performances from Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, Nicole Scherzinger and IShowSpeed, along with a special appearance by Tom Cruise.
Jennifer Hudson will deliver the United States national anthem ahead of the final, adding a further layer of ceremony to the pre-match programme.
