Islamabad (GNP): Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, Tipu Usman Chaudhry, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad to discuss bilateral relations.
In a separate meeting, Chaudhry also called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb to discuss areas of shared economic interest and explore ways to deepen Pakistan-UK financial cooperation. Aurangzeb welcomed the newly appointed High Commissioner, expressing confidence that his experience and diplomatic skills would help strengthen bilateral economic ties and advance Pakistan’s economic diplomacy goals in the UK.
Key Areas of Discussion
The meeting covered potential areas for expanded cooperation, including trade, investment, banking, remittances, capital markets, and financial services. Discussions also touched on strengthening Pakistan’s outreach to international investors and financial institutions, with particular focus on leveraging London’s standing as a major global financial hub to support Pakistan’s capital market and financing goals.
Aurangzeb pointed to the government’s ongoing work to diversify financing sources, expand access to international capital markets, and strengthen the country’s overall financial framework. The two sides also discussed emerging areas such as digital finance, blockchain-based solutions, virtual assets, and tokenization, framing these within Pakistan’s broader digital transformation efforts.
Additional talks focused on debt management and capital market development, including continued coordination with the UK’s Debt Management Office. Chaudhry updated the finance minister on plans to engage institutional investors and organize future investment roadshows alongside leading financial institutions.
Role of the Diaspora
Aurangzeb emphasized the significant contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK toward strengthening economic ties between the two countries, particularly through remittances, the Roshan Digital Account, and broader investment and business activity. He also stressed the importance of continued engagement with UK-based financial institutions and the private sector to further bilateral economic cooperation.
The finance minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability, reinforcing fiscal discipline, improving the business environment, and encouraging private sector-driven growth. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination going forward to advance shared economic priorities.
Chaudhry, for his part, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its economic partnership with the UK across all sectors, describing the relationship as a long-standing one with considerable room for further growth.
