Islamabad (GNP): President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan issued the following message on the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of Abdul Sattar Edhi (8th July 2026):
Today, as the nation marks a decade since the passing of Abdul Sattar Edhi, Pakistan pauses to honour a man who gave his entire life in service to others. Edhi Sahib lived and breathed for those who suffered — the poor, the abandoned, and those whom society had left behind. His dedication to humanity knew no boundaries of caste, creed, or faith, and stood as a living reminder that true greatness is measured not in personal gain but in selfless giving.
Under the banner of the Edhi Foundation, he constructed a vast architecture of social care entirely from scratch. Among its most celebrated achievements is an ambulance service that grew into the largest volunteer-run emergency network in the world, reaching people at their most desperate moments. His shelters offered refuge to the homeless, his orphanages gave children a chance at life, and his free kitchens fed those who had nothing — together forming an institution of mercy built through sheer will and conviction.
Abdul Sattar Edhi was far more than a humanitarian figure; he became a source of enduring national pride. The institutions he gave his life to building continue to serve millions, a powerful testament to what one resolute individual can achieve. His legacy calls on all of us to uphold the values of empathy, generosity, and human dignity.
On this solemn day, the people of Pakistan renew their resolve to carry forward Edhi Sahib’s mission — to strengthen the ties that bind us as human beings and ensure that the light of compassion he kindled never fades.
