Islamabad (GNP): On the occasion of the International Day of Parliamentarism, Deputy Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syedaal Khan Nasar, reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Democratic Institutions, protecting constitutional supremacy, and promoting inclusive and representative governance across the country.
He stated that Parliament is the foundation of every democratic state because it represents the voice, aspirations, and expectations of the people. According to the Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Parliament plays a central role in translating the will of the people into constitutional and legislative action while shaping national policies that serve the public interest.
He added that strong Democratic Institutions are essential for ensuring political stability, protecting democratic values, and creating a governance system that remains accountable to the people. He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to reinforcing parliamentary traditions that contribute to national unity, peace, and sustainable development.
Democratic Institutions Strengthen Parliamentary Governance
Syedaal Khan Nasar said that the International Day of Parliamentarism, observed every year on 30 June, serves as an important reminder of the significance of effective parliamentary institutions in every democratic society. He explained that strong Democratic Institutions promote the rule of law, transparency, accountability, and public confidence while ensuring that national decisions are made through democratic consultation and constitutional procedures.
He emphasized that an active Parliament does not only make laws but also provides oversight of government performance and ensures that the concerns of citizens are addressed through meaningful legislation. He noted that Parliament contributes significantly to strengthening social justice, protecting democratic rights, and creating equal opportunities for all sections of society. According to him, democratic governance becomes stronger when Parliament remains active, responsive, and committed to serving the people with honesty and dedication.
The Deputy Chairman of the Senate further stated that the Senate of Pakistan continues to perform its constitutional responsibilities with commitment and determination while promoting federal harmony and democratic traditions. He highlighted that effective legislation, meaningful representation of public aspirations, parliamentary oversight, and constructive debate remain the key pillars of successful Democratic Institutions. He said that the Senate is committed to ensuring that every province and every citizen receive equal representation under the Constitution.
He further explained that parliamentary committees, legislative discussions, and policy consultations strengthen democracy by improving governance and increasing public trust in state institutions. He reaffirmed that the Senate will continue working to uphold constitutional supremacy and strengthen democratic values for the benefit of future generations.
Democratic Institutions Promote Global Parliamentary Cooperation
Highlighting the changing international environment, Syedaal Khan Nasar said that parliamentary diplomacy has become increasingly important in strengthening relations among countries and promoting peaceful cooperation. He explained that Democratic Institutions have an essential role in encouraging dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation between nations while addressing common global challenges such as peace, security, sustainable development, and economic progress.

He added that active parliamentary diplomacy enables countries to exchange experiences, develop stronger democratic practices, and contribute to international peace and stability.
