ICCI-NACTA to Host “Women as Peace Leaders” Event

Islamabad (GNP): The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), in partnership with the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), is organizing an event titled “Women as Peace Leaders” on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, at the S.M. Muneer Auditorium at ICCI. The event is designed to recognize and amplify the vital role women play in building peace, social cohesion, economic progress, and national resilience.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry will attend as chief guest, joined by policymakers, development specialists, business leaders, academics, and prominent women entrepreneurs from across the region. The forum will serve as a space to explore how women in leadership positions can contribute to countering extremism, reinforcing communities, and driving sustainable development.

ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood will deliver the welcome address, using the occasion to highlight the Chamber’s track record on women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship development, and bridging industry with academia. He is expected to outline ICCI’s programs aimed at widening economic access for women, building skills, nurturing innovation, and increasing women’s visibility in business and public life.

NACTA was set up in 2008 as an administrative unit within the Ministry of Interior. In 2013, the NACTA Act granted it administrative and financial independence and reconstituted it as a body corporate governed by a Board of Governors, supported by an Executive Committee.

Under the NACTA Act, 2013, the Authority’s core functions include gathering, analyzing, and sharing intelligence with relevant stakeholders to produce threat assessments for the federal government; developing and periodically updating comprehensive national counter-terrorism and counter-extremism strategies; preparing action plans against terrorism and extremism and reporting on their implementation; conducting research and circulating findings on relevant topics; coordinating with international bodies on counter-terrorism cooperation; reviewing related legislation and recommending amendments to the federal government; and forming expert committees drawn from government and non-government organizations to support its mandate.
