NTC & PSW Ink Digitalization Agreement to Boost Trade

Islamabad (GNP): In line with the Prime Minister’s push to turn the National Tariff Commission into a credible, robust, and responsive body through digitalization, the NTC and the Pakistan Single Window have signed an agreement to automate and digitize the Commission’s processes. Dr. Jawwad Uwais Agha, Chairman of the NTC, and Syed Aftab Haider, CEO of PSW, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, speaking at the ceremony, commended the NTC’s progress toward this transformation and described digitalization as central to the institution’s reform. He said a modernized, digitally equipped NTC is necessary to support strong economic growth and to keep Pakistan’s trade defense tools in step with international standards.

The agreement is meant to deepen cooperation in data sharing and to automate NTC functions related to tariff and trade policy analysis, tariff rationalization, and faster handling of trade remedy cases such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, and safeguard measures.

Dr. Agha described the signing as more than a technology upgrade, calling it a step in the institution’s broader evolution. He said digitalization would shorten case processing times, improve investigative accuracy, and, through the Tariff Policy Centre, build a more transparent and predictable trade environment that strengthens Pakistan’s competitiveness.

CEO Haider welcomed the partnership, noting that folding NTC’s tariff functions into the PSW platform would strengthen institutional ties and support the Commission’s transformation through real-time, shared trade data.

Officials from both sides framed the agreement as a joint effort to build a transparent, predictable, and growth-focused trade and tariff system that boosts the competitiveness of domestic industry.
