Canada Seeks Enhanced Bilateral Ties with Pakistan

Islamabad (GNP): Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, meets Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate and Ambassador to the Inter-Parliamentary Conference (ISC). The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Canada, parliamentary cooperation, trade linkages, and strengthening people-to-people contacts.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and cordial relationship between Pakistan and Canada.

Discussions underscored the importance of deepening engagement in diverse areas, including parliamentary diplomacy, economic cooperation, education, cultural exchanges, and institutional partnerships.

Advisor to the Chairman Senate Misbah Khar highlighted the significance of parliamentary cooperation as an essential pillar for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening democratic institutions. She emphasised the importance of enhanced interaction between parliamentary bodies of both countries, including exchange of parliamentary delegations, legislative experiences, and institutional best practices aimed at promoting effective governance and stronger democratic traditions.

The meeting also focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Pakistan and Canada. It was noted that stronger economic linkages and increased business-to-business engagement could unlock substantial opportunities for trade growth and economic cooperation.

 Both sides acknowledged the need to further facilitate commercial partnerships and encourage collaboration in sectors of mutual interest, including education, agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable resource development.

People-to-people contacts and the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada were also discussed in detail. The Advisor to Chairman Senate appreciated the positive contribution of Pakistani-Canadians in strengthening bilateral relations and serving as a bridge between the two nations. She stressed the importance of promoting educational exchanges, cultural engagement, tourism, and academic cooperation to foster greater understanding and friendship between the peoples of both countries.
