Romania Envoy Praises Pakistan’s Role in US-Iran Ceasefire

CHAIRMAN SENATE WELCOMES IRAN–US CEASEFIRE; TERMS IT A MILESTONE FOR REGIONAL PEACE; COMMENDS PAKISTAN’S DIPLOMATIC LEADERSHIP

Islamabad  (GNP)  :  Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has warmly welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing it as a significant and encouraging step toward peace, stability, and de-escalation in the Middle East and beyond.

Addressing the Senate, the Chairman underscored that Pakistan has consistently championed dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful engagement as the only sustainable means of resolving international conflicts. He noted that the ceasefire stands as a testament to the effectiveness of diplomatic efforts and reflects the shared resolve of responsible global leadership to prevent further escalation.

Chairman Senate paid tribute to the leadership of Pakistan for its proactive and constructive diplomatic engagement. He particularly appreciated the role of the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari; the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif; Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar; and the Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their coordinated efforts and outreach, which contributed to building positive momentum toward peace.

He also acknowledged the willingness demonstrated by both the United States and Iran to engage in dialogue, emphasizing that such engagement is indispensable for fostering mutual understanding, regional stability, and long-term peace.

Highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic excellence, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani commended the professionalism, dedication, and tireless efforts of Pakistan’s diplomatic corps, stating that their role has been instrumental in facilitating meaningful progress toward de-escalation.

While welcoming the development, the Chairman cautioned that the path ahead requires sustained commitment, patience, and cooperation from all stakeholders. He expressed optimism that the upcoming talks in Islamabad would serve as a foundation for durable peace, economic stability, and regional cooperation, with the support of friendly nations and the international community.

He further urged the global community to extend full support to ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at consolidating peace and ensuring a stable and prosperous future for the region.

Before the commencement of formal proceedings, the Chairman Senate informed the House of a significant cultural and diplomatic moment, announcing the presentation of Pakistan’s National Anthem in a refined choral arrangement by the National Chamber Choir of Romania.

He described the initiative as a powerful symbol of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Romania, reflecting mutual respect, shared values, and a longstanding partnership rooted in cultural exchange since 1964.

On behalf of the Senate and the people of Pakistan, the Chairman extended heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of Romania, the Ambassador and his team, and the Choir for their meaningful gesture.

Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, earlier, inaugurated a pictorial exhibition at the Parliament House showcasing the longstanding diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Romania, describing it as a powerful reflection of over six decades of friendship, cooperation, and shared aspirations.

‎The exhibition, presented as a gift by the Embassy of Romania, features a collection of rare and historic photographs documenting key milestones in bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1964.

‎Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Chairman Senate Gilani expressed appreciation to the Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu and Romanian Embassy for the thoughtful initiative and highlighted the importance of people-to-people and parliamentary connections in strengthening international partnerships.

‎“These photographs are more than images; they represent a living timeline of sixty-two years of friendship between Pakistan and Romania. Each frame captures moments of mutual respect, cooperation, and the shared vision that has shaped our relationship over the decades,” he said.

‎Chairman Senate noted that the exhibition also includes rare photographs of prominent leaders who played an important role in nurturing bilateral relations, including former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whose diplomatic outreach helped lay the foundations of Pakistan-Romania friendship.

‎He further commended the efforts of the Pakistan-Romania Friendship Groups in both Houses of Parliament for promoting parliamentary diplomacy and fostering closer engagement between the two countries.

‎The event was attended by Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan, Senator Rana Mehmood ul Hassan, Member Provincial Assembly Syed Ali Haider Gilani, ambassadors, parliamentarians, and distinguished guests,  and Barrister  Aqeel Malik  State Minister  of Law and Justice.

‎During the occasion, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan Dan Stoenescu hailed Pakistan’s efforts for the cease fire between the US and Iran. He further iterated that National Anthem of Pakistan in Choral format is a gift for people of Pakistan from the People of Romania as a mark of long lasting friendship. He thanked the participants and hailed the efforts of Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani for strengthening the Pak-Romania ties.
