COMSTECH and Revive partner to advance health innovation in OIC nations

Islamabad : COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Revive Medical Technologies Inc. (RMT), a U.S.-based biomedical engineering company, to enhance collaboration in the development and commercialization of medical technologies across OIC member states. The agreement focuses on strengthening research and development, encouraging local manufacturing, and facilitating the availability of affordable and high-quality medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and software solutions in the Islamic world.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Dr. M. Iqbal Chaudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH, stated that a comprehensive gap analysis and sectoral studies would be conducted to identify priority medical technologies needed by OIC countries. He further highlighted COMSTECH’s commitment to facilitating dialogue among member states to create enabling environments for local R&D and manufacturing of medical devices. COMSTECH will also work to mobilize investments from government, intergovernmental, and private sector entities for the establishment of medical device production facilities and excellence centers. The partnership aims to promote import substitution, encourage exports, and reduce healthcare costs through the development of innovative and locally produced solutions.

RMT, which operates from the GuideWell Innovation Center in Orlando, Florida, and maintains facilities in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, will contribute its expertise in medical device research, testing, manufacturing, and regulatory consultancy. The MoU outlines a five-year collaboration to support health-related innovation, with both parties agreeing to maintain confidentiality and mutual cooperation throughout the partnership. Senior officials from COMSTECH, RMT, and the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) witnessed the signing of this important agreement, marking a significant step toward advancing health innovation and self-reliance among OIC member states.
