Lahore : Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif attended a special ceremony on the completion of 10,000 heart surgeries under CM Child Heart Surgery Program. At the ceremony, she sat among the ailing children and their families, and expressed compassion for them. She expressed gratitude for free surgeries of over 10,000 children from across Pakistan, including the highest number of 425 children from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 250 from Azad Jammu & Kashmir, 107 from the Federal area, 34 from Gilgit Baltistan, 28 from Balochistan and 27 from Sindh.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif also inaugurated the new ICU of Children’s Hospital. She visited the ICU, interacted with the children under treatment, and expressed compassion for them. Provincial Minister for Specialized Health Khawaja Salman Rafique briefed in detail about Chief Minister Punjab Child Heart Surgery Program. He said that so far, 10,331 children have undergone heart surgery under the Program. Vice Chancellor Dr Masood Sadiq also gave a briefing on the Program. He said that every year, 50,000 children are born with heart disease, and 25,000 out of them require immediate surgery.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif increased the number of cardiac surgeons at Children’s Hospital Lahore to 12 and that of cardiac physicians to 34. She was also apprised that through Chief Minister’s Transplant Card, 800 cochlear transplants and 200 bone marrow transplants have been performed on children. A special informational video on Chief Minister Punjab Child Heart Surgery Program was also screened on the occasion.
