
2ND WATCHMAKER WORKING GROUP MEETING (WGM)
Islamabad: Islamabad successfully conducted the 2nd Watchmaker Working Group Meeting, in which experts from INTERPOL Chemical Explosive Terrorism Prevention Unit, INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France, provided insights on the emerging technologies in chemical and explosive terrorism, INTERPOL’s biometric capabilities and regional threat assessment related to Chemical Explosives in general and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in particular.
Nineteen (19) participants from provincial and national law enforcement agencies including Counter Terrorism Departments (CTD) of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Baluchistan,and Sindh, Bomb Disposal Squad/ Gilgit-Baltistan Police, Bomb Disposal Squad/ Islamabad Police, National Forensics Agency (NFA), National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), Counter Terrorism Wing (CTW)/ FIA, and NCB-INTERPOL/ FIA, attended the meeting.
The meeting was focused on enhancing the regional cooperation and operational capacity of the participants to counter chemical and explosive terrorism.
The meeting concluded with the feedback from the participants who underscored the importance of the meeting as it provided them a valuable opportunity to share their expertise and knowledge with their counterparts. The closing remarks were given by Capt. (Rtd) Tahir Ayub Khan (PSP), Director / Deputy Head of NCB-Pakistan, who extended his sincere gratitude to all participants and experts from INTERPOL on behalf of NCB-Pakistan and presented shields to the distinguished guests from the INTERPOL.
