COMSTECH-PABIC-ICCBS Winter Internship Programme concludes to promote modern sciences

Islamabad   The four-week COMSTECH-PABIC-ICCBS Winter Internship Programme for Youth 2025 concluded after successfully providing hands-on laboratory training to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The programme was initiated by the Pakistan Biotechnology Information Centre (PABIC) under the project titled Dissemination of Information, Raising Awareness and Capacity Building about the Application of Modern Biotechnology in OIC Member and Observer States”, funded by OIC-COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The internship aimed to promote multidisciplinary collaboration while enhancing awareness and appreciation of modern sciences at both local and OIC levels.

A total of 34 BS/MS students participated in the programme and received training in various laboratories of the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). The participating students belonged to the University of Karachi, Jinnah University for Women (Karachi), University of Turbat (Balochistan), University of Peshawar, Dow University of Health Sciences, University of Sindh (Jamshoro), and NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Addressing the interns, Coordinator General  OIC-COMSTECH,  Prof Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary encouraged them to learn the ethics of both life and science. He highlighted the importance of soft skills and learning flexibility to stay updated in their respective research fields. He added that excellence has no shortcut and can only be achieved through hard work and continuous learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Director ICCBS Prof Dr M. Raza Shah said the main objective of the internship was to motivate students and enable them to enter real work environments with practical skills.
