Peace Plan; Serbia sandwiched between EU and Russia

The European Union stressed on Serbia to accept the proposed peace plan with Kosovo. in case of rejection Belgrade will lose the possible membership of European Union.

Belgrade, 27 January 2023 (GNP): The close ally of Russia, Serbia is warned by the European Union to normalize its relationship with its former province Kosovo. The European Union (EU) warned Belgrade if it refused its proposed plan for peace in the Balkan region, it would face a strict response from it, including dropping its membership in the EU.

Serbian President Aleksander Vucic decided to launch a mass campaign about to know how this reconciliation with Kosovo has to be made.

Both the US and European countries have pressurized Belgrade to accept the peace plan and start negotiations with Priština for the normalization of their relations.

The proposed plan provides a leeway for Belgrade not to accept Kosovo as an independent sovereign state, but it demands from it that should not stop Priština from joining international organizations like NATO and the European Council.  They cautioned that Serbia if it did not change it stance, it would lose hope of EU membership as well as the heavy foreign investment it received from other western countries.

The tension emerged in Balkan in last December when a shootout incident was reported in the media.  In the reported shootout incident, though, no one was killed, but the ethnic Serbs living in Kosovo blamed Kosovo for planning a genocide of theirs.  They blockaded those areas where they were in majority.  While the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, categorically denounced any such planning or move by the government.  He requested the ethnic Serbs to open their areas and live and move freely in Kosovo.

While Serbia deployed its troops after this, reported news of shootout and genocide planning by Kosovo. Priština accused Belgrade of planning an attack on Kosovo.  The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti blamed Moscow for instigating Serbia to start another war in the Balkan region.
