
Constitution of Pakistan Guarantees the Protection and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women
Islamabad : Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Islam teaches compassion, dignity, and respect in all dealings with women and emphasizes the provision of their fundamental rights. He stated that Islam accords women a position of high honour and explicitly prohibits violence, coercion, and all forms of oppression against them. He added that the creation of a just, inclusive, and progressive society is not possible without the socio-economic and political empowerment of women. He expressed these views on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that national development and prosperity require the meaningful inclusion of women in all spheres of life and the elimination of violence perpetrated against them. He called upon state institutions, civil society, communities, and all relevant stakeholders to work collectively towards this vital objective. He further stressed the need for prioritising efforts aimed at ending violence against women, ensuring socio-economic justice, and safeguarding their rights.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted that the Parliament of Pakistan has enacted significant legislation to protect women’s rights, prevent workplace harassment, secure inheritance rights, curb domestic violence, and ensure access to timely justice. He added that Pakistan is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), under which the State is obligated to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against women, protect their rights, and ensure equal opportunities. He noted that the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of the National Assembly of Pakistan is playing an active role in fulfilling these international commitments through advocacy, facilitating legislative action, and undertaking awareness initiatives.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reiterated that eliminating violence against women requires transforming societal attitudes, ensuring the effective implementation of relevant laws, and creating safe and enabling environments for women across the country. He reaffirmed Parliament’s resolve to continue advancing women’s rights, ensuring their protection, and enhancing their socio-economic empowerment.
