6th round of Pakistan-Mexico political consultations held in Islamabad

Islamabad, 6 December, 2023 (GNP): The 6th round of Pakistan-Mexico Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) took place in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the high-level diplomatic consultations, Pakistani delegations was led Additional Foreign Secretary (Americas) Ambassador Mariam Aftab, whereas the Mexican delegations was led by Ambassador Jose Tripp Villanueva, Director General for Africa, Central Asia and Middle East, at the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

The Additional Foreign Secretary reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering dedication to expanding and intensifying its association with Mexico.

Emphasizing key areas such as trade, agriculture, investment, science & technology, and people-to-people connections, Pakistan underscored its commitment to geo-economic imperatives.

Both sides expressed contentment with the collaboration between their delegations at international forums, notably within the United Nations, and discussions on Security Council Reform.

Mutual support for candidatures in various UN and international organizations was also reiterated by Pakistan and Mexico.

The discussions delved into enhancing cooperation on consular matters, stressing the significance of robust diplomatic engagement.

The reopening of Mexico’s resident Mission in Islamabad was highlighted as a pivotal step for deeper ties.

Moreover, the consultations encompassed discussions on critical regional and global affairs, including Afghanistan, Palestine, and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Ambassador Villanueva’s visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included a meeting with the Foreign Secretary, where both officials expressed contentment with the current positive trajectory of bilateral relations. They reaffirmed their joint commitment to further solidifying Pakistan-Mexico relations across diverse sectors.
