SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan attends Algeria’s National Day, highlights Deep-Rooted Pakistan–Algeria Friendship and Economic Cooperation
Islamabad : Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, attended the National Day of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria as Chief Guest at a ceremony.

Ambassador of Algeria Dr. Brahim Romani paid tribute to the enduring friendship between Algeria and Pakistan. He recalled that Pakistan was among the earliest supporters of Algeria’s independence movement, backing its liberation struggle during the 1955 Bandung Conference and later at the United Nations.
“We remember with pride and gratitude Pakistan’s unwavering support during our revolution and after independence in 1962,” Dr. Romani said, adding that the partnership between the two nations continues through close cooperation in regional and international forums, including their shared service as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.
He emphasized that both countries remain committed to multilateralism and justice for oppressed nations, particularly the causes of Palestine and Western Sahara.
Highlighting Algeria’s growing economic strength, the ambassador described his country as a strategic bridge between Africa, Europe, and Asia. Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s economy has shown strong momentum, with its GDP reaching $270 billion in 2024 and projected to hit $400 billion by 2027.
He noted that Algeria has become a regional energy and industrial hub, producing about 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually and fostering more than 17,000 new investment projects under its reformed investment framework. The country also leads Africa’s start-up ecosystem, boasting over 10,000 active companies.
Dr. Romani also cited the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair held in Algeria in September, which drew participants from 132 countries and generated trade contracts worth $48.3 billion. He said the event reflected Algeria’s emergence as a center for business, innovation, and regional integration.

Addressing the gathering of diplomats, dignitaries, and distinguished guests, Haroon Akhtar Khan extended warm felicitations on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan to the Government and the brotherly people of Algeria.
SAPM lauded Algeria’s remarkable journey from struggle to sovereignty, describing it as “a timeless testament to courage and national pride.” He emphasized that Pakistan and Algeria share a long-standing relationship founded on mutual respect, shared aspirations, and historical solidarity.
Haroon Akhtar highlighted that Pakistan supported Algeria’s independence movement even before the formation of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, and was among the first nations to recognize its provisional government and establish full diplomatic relations in 1963.
He noted that over the decades, Pakistan–Algeria relations have strengthened across various sectors, with cooperation at international platforms such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Underscoring the economic potential between the two nations, Haroon Akhtar Khan said,
Both Pakistan and Algeria are blessed with abundant natural resources and skilled human capital. Together, we can enhance cooperation in trade, industry, and investment — creating opportunities that serve our mutual prosperity.”
He invited Algerian investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s emerging industrial landscape, citing major government initiatives such as the New Industrial Policy, National Tariff Policy, and New Energy Vehicle Policy aimed at fostering export-led growth, attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), and promoting industrial modernization under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Haroon Akhtar further stated, Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Pakistan is undergoing a transformative phase of industrial revival — one that is rooted in modernization, inclusivity, and innovation. We are committed to building a transparent, investor-friendly environment that encourages innovation and long-term investment.”
Concluding his remarks, the SAPM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Algeria, saying Pakistan believes that through mutual cooperation, both our nations can rise together in industry, innovation, and prosperity. May the friendship between Pakistan and Algeria grow ever stronger, guided by our shared values and vision for a better tomorrow.”
