Advisor to Chairman Senate Meets Senior Officials from Embassy of Iran
Islamabad : Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chairman Senate, visited the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where she met with Nabi Shirazi, Minister Counsellor/Deputy Head of Mission, and Dr. Mahdi Bahmani, Secretary in the Political Section.
During the meeting, Khar presented an overview of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a newly established multilateral forum dedicated to strengthening cooperation and dialogue among national parliaments. She noted that the ISC has already brought together 45 presiding officers from legislatures across the globe, and that, in elections recently held in Malaysia, Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously elected as the forum’s inaugural President.
Khar extended an official invitation to the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran to attend the first full session of the ISC, scheduled for November 11–12, in Islamabad. She outlined the event’s central theme; Peace, Stability and Security—and explained its focus on fostering dialogue among parliamentary leaders to address shared global challenges. She also shared details of the preparatory process, including thematic discussions and high-level exchanges among delegations from various regions.
In addition, Khar conveyed the vision of the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, to formally establish Gilan and Multan, as sister cities; an initiative aimed at deepening cultural, historical, and economic linkages between the two nations.
The Iranian officials welcomed both the ISC initiative and the sister-city proposal, expressing readiness to explore avenues for enhanced parliamentary cooperation and broader people-to-people engagement. Both sides affirmed that Iran’s participation in the ISC would further strengthen ties between the two countries’ legislatures and foster closer bilateral relations. Senior Director General Protocol , Senate , Tariq Bin Waheed was also present during the meeting.
