Islamabad ; On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized that hepatitis is a serious but treatable disease. He underscored that timely diagnosis, effective preventive measures, and widespread public awareness are crucial in combating its spread. He noted with concern the rising incidence of Hepatitis B and C in Pakistan, calling it a pressing national challenge that demands unified and sustained efforts.
NA Speaker pointed out that a lack of awareness, unsafe medical practices, and the use of contaminated syringes are among the leading causes of the disease’s spread. He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to public health by ensuring comprehensive legislation, strict action against quack practitioners, and the approval of adequate funds to improve healthcare infrastructure.
He urged Members of Parliament to actively promote awareness campaigns within their constituencies to educate the public on the importance of preventive care and screening. He highlighted that the Government of Pakistan is undertaking concrete steps to eliminate hepatitis through nationwide screening programs, vaccination campaigns, and the provision of free treatment.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also paid tribute to the efforts of healthcare institutions, doctors, nurses, and medical staff who are working tirelessly on the front lines to eliminate the disease. He appealed to the public to undergo timely screening, adopt preventive measures, and support government initiatives aimed at improving public health.
He concluded by stating that with collective awareness, public cooperation, and a comprehensive strategy, the dream of a hepatitis-free Pakistan can be realized.
In his message, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah said that hepatitis poses a serious threat not only to individual health but also to national development. He stressed that alongside modern medical facilities, public awareness, preventive measures, and adherence to hygiene and health principles are essential to combat the disease.
He reaffirmed that the National Assembly considers public health a national priority and continues to play an active role in effective legislation, monitoring, and awareness. He reiterated the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to supporting efforts at all levels for the eradication of hepatitis in Pakistan.
