Romania boasts a rich tradition in classical music and opera, Amb Stoenescu

Embassy of Romania in Collaboration with PNCA Officially Launches Opera Singing Courses

Islamabad — The Embassy of Romania and the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) are proud to officially inaugurate the opera singing courses at PNCA, with a formal launch ceremony.

The event was graced by the presence of H.E. Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Honourable Farah Naz Akbar, Member of the National Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Mr. Muhammad Ayoub Jamali, Director General of PNCA, Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Incharge of Music Classes at PNCA, as well as participating students of PNCA.

On this ocassion Ambassador Dan Stoenescu said: “Romania has a deep and proud tradition of classical music and opera, and we are delighted to share this rich cultural heritage with the talented and aspiring musicians of Pakistan. Through the universal language of music, we hope to build bridges between our cultures, encourage artistic collaboration, and foster mutual understanding. These classes are not only an introduction to Romanian vocal traditions, but also a celebration of the creative potential that exists in both our countries. We are grateful to the PNCA for their support and to Ms. Georgiana Costea-Glugă for bringing her passion and expertise to Islamabad. I look forward to seeing these young voices grow, and to witnessing the cultural harmony that can be achieved through initiatives like this.”

Honourable Farah Naz Akbar, Member of the National Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, remarked: “It is with great enthusiasm that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the Embassy of Romania on the successful launch of the opera singing classes in Islamabad. This initiative marks a significant step in fostering cultural exchange and promoting the rich artistic traditions of Romania within Pakistan. As we continue to prioritize education and cultural development, this program aligns with our commitment to nurturing talent and broadening the horizons of our youth. I encourage all aspiring vocalists to seize this opportunity to learn from world-class professionals and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Pakistan’s artistic community.”

The opening ceremony included music performances by young Pakistani vocalists, violin players and guitarists.

These unique canto courses, conducted by renowned Romanian soprano Ms. Georgiana Costea-Glugă, commenced earlier on April 9, 2025, and are held twice a week. The initiative is aimed at introducing Pakistani students to the rich tradition of Romanian opera and fostering cross-cultural artistic exchange.

Course Details

Schedule: Wednesdays and Fridays, 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Venue: Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), F-5/1, Islamabad
Eligibility: Ages 14 and above (Participants under 14 will focus on foundational techniques)

Opera is a classical art form that merges vocal excellence with theatrical storytelling. Under the mentorship of Ms. Costea-Glugă, participants gain exposure to the core principles of operatic performance, including vocal technique, stage presence, and musical interpretation.

This cultural initiative reflects the continued commitment of PNCA and the Embassy of Romania to promote artistic and educational opportunities. It also strengthens the cultural ties between Romania and Pakistan through the shared language of music.

The courses are open to aspiring vocalists of all experience levels. Whether a beginner or an opera enthusiast, participants will find an enriching and immersive learning environment.
