Pakistan’s strong commitment to eradicating polio, Mustafa Kamal

Federal Health Minister, Syed Mustafa Kamal Held a Significant Meeting with Dr. Chris Elias, President of Global Development at the Gates Foundation

Islamabad ; Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal met with Dr. Chris Elias, President of Global Development at the Gates Foundation, to discuss continued collaboration in Pakistan’s fight against polio, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Health.
During the meeting, Minister Kamal appreciated the Gates Foundation’s unwavering support and contributions towards Pakistan’s polio eradication efforts. He reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s strong commitment to eradicating polio and emphasized that both federal and provincial governments, along with law enforcement agencies, remain united and resolute in achieving this goal.

“The fight against polio has required tremendous sacrifice from all stakeholders, including law enforcement personnel who have rendered invaluable services,” said the Minister. “This mission will continue until we reach complete eradication.

Minister Kamal also highlighted that under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, a firm national resolve has been demonstrated. He noted that the Prime Minister regularly convenes high-level meetings to review the performance of the polio eradication program and ensure the provision of full support and resources.

He emphasized the ongoing close cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, including synchronized national immunization campaigns across both countries. The Minister informed that successful nationwide anti-polio campaigns were carried out in February and April, and the next round will commence on May 26, targeting over 45.4 million children under the age of five.

Minister Kamal also reported that due to high-quality campaigns and improved community engagement, there has been a significant reduction in vaccine refusals among parents. He expressed optimism that with continued dedication, Pakistan is on track to achieve complete polio eradication by the end of 2025.

Dr. Chris Elias commended the Government of Pakistan for its sustained efforts and reaffirmed the Gates Foundation’s commitment to supporting the country’s journey toward a polio-free future. He expressed hope that the 2025 eradication target would be successfully achieved.
