Islamabad : The High Commission of Sri Lanka commemorated Vesak the most sacred day in the Buddhist calendar on 12 May 2024. The main celebration was held at the International Buddhist Centre, which functions under the custodian of the Sri Lanka High Commission and is located in the Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad.
On the invitation of A. Christy Ruban, Acting High Commissioner, a number of diplomats and their families attended the event. Distinguished guests included the Heads of Mission of Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, along with members of their staff, families, and Sri Lankan nationals working with the UNICEF Country Office in Islamabad.

The program featured traditional offerings to the Buddha and devotional prayers, fostering a spirit of peace and reflection among those in attendance. This was followed by a Dansela (almsgiving), organized by the staff and family members of the High Commission.

To mark the occasion, the Temple and the High Commission premises were beautifully adorned with Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags, and vibrant lights, creating a serene and festive atmosphere.
