Bangkok, 19 November 2022 (TDI/ GNP): The President of China, Xi Jinping, says there is a need to place China-US ties back on a positive course.
Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed optimism that China and the United States will deepen their understanding of one another and cooperate to put their bilateral ties back on a stable and healthy course.
He made this statement on Saturday while speaking with United States Vice President Kamala Harris outside the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Bangkok.
Chinese media reported Chinese President said that he hopes that both sides will continue to deepen mutual understanding, avoid miscommunications and mistakes, and work together to return China-US ties to a stable and healthy path.
Kamla Haris’s statement
US Vice President Kamala Harris informed Chinese President Xi Jinping that Washington does not desire conflict with China but rather encourages competition.
At a press conference held at the home of the US ambassador in Bangkok to wrap up an Asia tour that included a meeting with the Chinese leader, Harris said that US welcome competition, but we do not want conflict.
She also stressed on the communication between two sides.
APEC Meeting’s commencement
Bangkok, Thailand, hosted the APEC 2022 Summit, the 28th APEC Meeting. It covered a variety of subjects, including restoring the global economy in the wake of the pandemic. The summit was conducted under theme “Open. Connect. Balance”.
