Dili, 2 October 2021 (TDI/GNP): The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste had signed an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on 29 September 2021 to eliminate TB from Timor-Leste. The agreement aims to strengthen the TB prevention campaign and raise awareness about the burden of this disease in Timor-Leste.

The Ministry of Health Staff of Timor-Leste expressed their views that we are excited to do work with the collaboration of WHO and its partners to make such progress in TB elimination and prevention. Timor-Leste’s prime minister is determined to put an end to this disease from our country because Timor-Leste has one of the highest TB prevalence rates in the WHO Southeast Asian region.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste reiterated the clear goals of the Timor-Leste government by 2025 that we would be empowered with national multiple health sectors which monitor progress in reaching end TB targets. In addition, the government of Timor-Leste would increase its budget and human resources allocation to improve the health sector for the elimination of this disease.
