Uzbek President discusses regional cooperation with US Secretary of State

Discusses bilateral relations and regional cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties

Tashkent, 1 March 2023 (GNP): President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation from the United States, led by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, to discuss bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, Blinken conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Joe Biden to the Uzbek President, emphasizing the US’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The US delegation commended Uzbekistan’s democratic transformations, socio-economic reforms, and progress in human rights, gender equality, and civil society institutions. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of Uzbek American relations and confirmed the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, and cultural ties.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed the importance of promoting regional stability and security, with a particular emphasis on the situation in Afghanistan.
