Washington DC, 27 January 2023 (GNP): As part of a long-term NASA attempt to show more effective ways to send astronauts to Mars in the future, it wants to test a spaceship engine fueled by nuclear fission by 2027 as announced by the head of the space agency on Tuesday.
NASA administrator Bill Nelson announced during a symposium in National Harbor, Maryland, that the space agency will collaborate with the US military’s research and development organization, DARPA, to construct a nuclear thermal propulsion engine and send it into space as soon as possible in 2027.
