UN adopted Turkmen resolution on International year of dialogue

The proposed resolution was discussed at the 45th plenary session of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. It was proposed by Turkmenistan under agenda item 14, "Culture of Peace."

New York, 9 December 2022 (GNP): The 77th UN General Assembly session’s 45th plenary meeting took place on December 6, 2022. Under agenda item 14 “Culture of Peace,” the General Assembly discuss “Culture of Peace,” the General Assembly discussed the draft resolution “International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, 2023” presented by Turkmenistan.ed the draft resolution “International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, 2023” presented by Turkmenistan.

When introducing the draught resolution, the Turkmen delegation emphasized that in December 2021, during the international conference “Policy of Peace and Trust – the Foundation of International Security, Stability and Development,” the President of Turkmenistan for the first time proposed the global initiative “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace.”

Turkmenistan’s delegation said that the draught resolution for the 2023 International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace was developed following extensive consultations among UN member states, taking into consideration all positive suggestions and viewpoints.

The paper represents the core objectives and tenets of the UN Charter, including the responsibility to resolve conflicts amicably and the resolve to spare future generations from the horrors of war.

According to the draught resolution, inclusive conversation in all of its forms is crucial for fostering goodwill and collaboration among the member states.

In presenting the draught resolution, the delegation of Turkmenistan paid particular attention to the fact that on December 11 of this year, Turkmenistan will host the International Conference “Dialogue is a Guarantee of Peace,” which will provide a forum for a wide-ranging exchange of viewpoints on the subjects covered in the draught resolution and lay the groundwork for the launch of a global campaign for dialogue as a guarantee of peace in 2023.

The Turkmenistan delegation extended an open invitation to all UN member states and organizations to participate actively in the forthcoming Forum.

This resolution was agreed upon following negotiations. 68 of the Organization’s member nations co-sponsored the resolution.
