Ankara, 6 February 2023 (GNP): Education Minister of Turkiye, Mahmut Ozer, announced, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency, “All schools in Turkiye would be closed for a week.” People who fled their homes due to the strong earthquake will be housed at the school buildings.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center earlier reported that on February 6, 2023, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake was felt in central Turkiye. The epicenter of the earthquake occurred 26 kilometers from Gaziantep, which has a population of roughly 1.06 million. The earthquake’s epicenter was about 7 kilometers below the surface.
According to Turkiy’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, three more earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 to 6.6 shook the province of Gaziantep in southeast Turkiye.

According to the official statistics, the earthquake resulted in 1,121 fatalities and 7,634 injuries. Strong vibrations were also felt in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Cyprus as a result of the earthquake that struck Turkiye.
