Strengthening security cooperation between Pakistan and Thailand

Both nations have committed to trade products in the defense sector, and high-ranking representatives from Pakistan and Thailand attended the respective Defense and Security Expos.

Islamabad, 19 January 2023 (GNP): A reception to strengthen the bilateral military cooperation between Pakistan and Thailand was held in Islamabad. The Defence Attache of Thailand, Colonel Thanai Permpul, spoke during a reception hosted in honour of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day at the Marquee Hall of the Marriott Hotel Islamabad.

The principal guest at the reception was Air Marshal Irfan Ahmed, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, who was joined by other dignitaries.

Colonel Permpul recognized the established Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) in 1954, as well as the long-standing diplomatic links between Pakistan and Thailand dating back to 1951.

He emphasized the two nations’ continuous security cooperation, which includes Thailand’s involvement in UNMOGIP operations and the creation of the Trisul counterterrorism exercise.

Additionally, he added that Pakistan had been asked to attend COBRAGOLD Joint Exercise in Thailand this year as an observer.

For the 6th International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition in 2023, Thailand’s army will deploy its top special warfare command. Additionally, both nations are collaborating with their respective intelligence communities to trade intelligence.

The navy has planned to deploy observers to the AMAN exercise in Karachi in 2023, collaborate on marine operations, and host senior commanders.

The Chief of Air Staff of Pakistan and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force will be visiting each other in the Air Force on a rotating basis.
